We live in a town filled with craft breweries and delicious beer. At Old Town Spice Shop, we decided to take our passion for craft coffee and craft beer to make Hopped Up Coffee! We wanted to create something new for our coffee-loving customers to enjoy while being able to buy coffee beans locally.
We think there's no better way to start off a cold winter day than with a warm cup of coffee, with the added flavor of hops! Our coffee isn’t just your average roast.
What Is Hopped Up Coffee?
Hopped Up Coffee is a single-origin coffee blended with various hops and malted barley to add the texture, sweetness, and body of various beer styles. We work with many local breweries, including New Belgium, Odell, Horse & Dragon, Purpose Brewing, DC Oakes, and others, to help create our line of unique flavors.
We started out with four different types of Hopped Up Coffee, including Chocolate Stout, Black IPA, Winter Warmer, and Scottish Ale. We also create seasonal coffees. Here’s more about our flavors:
Black IPA – This coffee blend brings flavors of fresh roasted coffee, citrus hops, and floral notes paired with various varieties of roasted barley to create the perfect combination of sweetness and body to remind you of a black IPA.
Chocolate Stout – Our chocolate stout coffee is a mouthwatering combination of fresh roasted coffee with hints of hops, paired with roasted barley and cocoa nibs that create a wonderful chocolate flavor and aroma.
Scottish Ale – Our Scottish Ale blend offers a fusion of freshly roasted coffee, biscuity and honey malts, with a hint of Cascade hops. This one will be sure to get you going in the morning!
Winter Warmer – This one is available only during the winter months. The blend is made with roasted coffee and a hint of hops, paired with a variety of roasted barley to add a bit of sweetness and body. The splash of cocoa and orange on top brings the flavor of winter to your coffee cup every morning.
Chocolate Peppermint Porter – This seasonal coffee is available in November and December. The flavors consist of chocolate, roasted coffee, and a hint of hops naturally sweetened with candy cane. Paired with a variety of roasted barley that adds a bit of sweetness and the body of a porter.
Pumpkin Ale – Another seasonal selection only available during the month of October, our Pumpkin Ale coffee is made from malted barley, hops, freshly roasted coffee, and a hint of pumpkin spice.

How to Make It
We suggest brewing two tablespoons of coffee per 8 ounces of water in a French press. If you’re into drip coffee, just brew a half pot. However, our Hopped Up Coffee does best in a French press, because of the way it is ground.
