Fall is the official start to cozy food season! Spice up your favorite comfort foods with gourmet spices from Old Town Spice Shop. Rich ingredients like pasta, meat, and cream often get all of the credit for comfort foods, but it’s really the spices that make the meal.

Our Best Gourmet Spices to Use in Comfort Foods

You can’t have a bowl of chili without the right spices! Here are a few of our favorite spices that we always keep in the cabinet once fall rolls around:

  • Chili Pepper Powder - Add to seasoning blends, soups, stews, marinades, condiments, rubs, and of course, chili! It’s perfect to use in any recipe to add heat and flavor. This chili powder is low in heat and high in flavor.
  • Cumin - Cumin is the second-most popular spice in the world, after black pepper. It has a warm, earthy aroma and a peppery flavor with citrus notes. Cumin is perfect for chili or curries.
  • Greek Oregano - Oregano has an aromatic, warm, and slightly bitter taste, which can vary in intensity and is most frequently used with roasted, fried, or grilled vegetables, meat, and fish. Greek Oregano is a great choice for dishes from the Mediterranean, including tomato sauces, pizza, grilled meats, and other dishes with strong flavors.
  • Rosemary - Rosemary has a distinctive pine-woody aroma with camphoraceous undertones and a fresh, bittersweet flavor. Rosemary is a must have for soups and meats in the fall!
