This recipe is designed to be simple, flavorful, and result in a gooey, kid-approved cheeseburger.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio is ideal for a juicy burger)
1 tablespoons Old Town Spice Shop Traditional Hamburger Seasoning or more to taste
4 slices of American cheese (the classic for a perfect melt)
4 hamburger buns
Toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayo (let the kids choose their favorites!)

Directions

Prepare the Patties: In a bowl, gently combine the ground beef and the Old Town Spice Shop Traditional Hamburger Seasoning. It's important not to over-mix the meat, as this can lead to a tough burger. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form them into patties, making them slightly wider than the buns to account for shrinkage on the grill. Use your thumb to create a small indentation in the center of each patty; this helps prevent the burger from puffing up as it cooks.
Heat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F). Make sure the grates are clean and lightly oiled to prevent sticking.
Grill the Burgers: Place the patties on the grill. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for a medium doneness. For a well-done burger, cook for 5-6 minutes per side. For thicker patties, you may need a little more time. Tip: Avoid pressing down on the burgers with your spatula while they cook, as this will squeeze out the flavorful juices and can result in a dry burger.
Add the Cheese: In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on top of each burger patty. Close the grill lid for about 30-60 seconds to allow the cheese to get nice and gooey.
Toast the Buns: While the cheese is melting, you can lightly toast the buns on the grill. This takes just a minute or two, and a toasted bun adds a great texture to the finished burger.
